Donington Park October 2021

The penultimate round of the Junior Saloon Car Championship was a tricky one, A decent weekend position wise but not one where I was happy with how I drove, Still lots learnt especially on how to drive on a wet greasy track

Qualifying

A messy session saw us only get one decent lap time in, what caught me out the most was the difference in track conditions from the day before, I struggled to get heat into my right rear tyre and in turn when I then leant on it on the chicane entry and last corner it didn’t give me the grip I expected. We ended up setting the 3rd fastest time for race 1 but only 6th for race 2

Race 1 – P4

Starting 3rd on a wet track my main goal was to bring the car home and not make any mistakes, We didn’t get a great start dropping back a few places but took to the outside line round turn 1 and got ourselves back to P3, A short saftey car period then followed before the green flag came out and we broke away as a group in the top5, A podium was looking promising until I missed a gear out of the old hairpin and dropped back two places, I sent a move on the last lap and managed to get myself back to P4 but unfortunately the chequered came out a lap earlier than expected and we couldn’t bring ourselves back to 3rd.

Race 2 – P13

On a slightly dryer track I was hoping to move forward from my starting position of 5th after a car in front had gotten a grid penalty. The start was okay but I was caught out in T1 after my car suddenly swapped ends as I hit the damp part of the track while going too fast, I managed to get the car out of the gravel and join the back of the saftey car train for a separate incident. Now 18th with 7 minutes to go I put on a charge getting myself up to 11th before overcooking a move on 10th place on the last lap and in turn losing 2 places to finish 13th

Overall not the weekend I had hoped for but with the last round of the championship less than two weeks away and at Brands Hatch where I made my debut I’m really looking forward to it.

Massive thanks to Westbourne Motorsport for the car and support this weekend as well as all my sponsors for the continued support and getting me to this point
